Shirley’s Obituary
Buchanan, Shirley Valeria age 75 passed away April 29, 2021 in Roseway Hospital Shelburne. Shirley was born September 20, 1945 to parents Lester and Mabel (Davis) Thorburn of Jordan Bay, Shelburne NS. After graduating from High School she worked at the Pathology Institute & Municipal Affairs in Halifax and in September 1982 started work as Business Manager at the Shelburne Youth Centre. She retired in 1995 from the Youth Centre at age 50 and enjoyed her time with family and friends who were many as whomever she met soon became her friend. She enjoyed bingo at Jordan Bay hall and playing at home lately, doing crossword puzzles and the Lexicon each week. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years Aric and her parents and fur companion Buddy. She is survived by Sister Brenda (Wayne), Brothers Lyman (Cathy) , Lawrence (Irene) and Allan, Nieces Jennifer, Kim (Dave), Emily (Cory), Nephews Cory (Rochelle), Jeremy (Doodle), Great Nephew Jayden, Great Nieces Delilah, Chevelle and Emmerson, Step- daughters Tammy (Harley), Lori (Frank) and Kim (Conrad). Sister in law Heather (Jeff), Niece Melanie(Dennis) and their children Matthew and Leah, Nephew Devin (Morgan). Grandchildren Ryan (Sheena), Megan (Billy), Taylor (Jacob) and Alex. Great Grandchildren Lilly and Jordynn, Lacey and Landon and Bradley. She is also leaving behind her extended family Allan (Karen) and their children Tristan and Brayden, Roseanne and Bernard, Paul and Shirley and many close cousins. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. At Shirley’s request there will be no visitation. Due to Covid restrictions a graveside service will be at a later date in Ocean View Cemetery in Jordan Bay. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Ocean View Cemetery C/0 Carolyn Acker, 3450 Sandy Point Road, Shelburne, NS. B0T 1W0. A special thank you to the VON nurses and Care Workers (she referred to as her Girls) for making it possible for her to be able to be in her home for the last several months. A very special thanks to Dorothy (Raymond) Carol and Carolyn for making her stay at home possible.
