Shirley Marguerite Smith
Shirley Marguerite Smith, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Woking, AB, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 89 years.
Shirley was born on December 4, 1931, in smith, AB, and raised in the Bad Heart, AB, area. She received her business degree in smith and found employment at the Royal Bank in smith. She later transferred to Spirit River, AB, where she met her future husband, Elder Smith. Shirley married Elder on June 27, 1952, where they started their Purebred Polled Hereford and grain operation while raising their family. When their children were older, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for the Central Peace Hospital, and later for the town of Spirit River until her retirement.
She found enjoyment in curling, bonspiels, travelling, reading, checking the crops, road trips, and following horse races.
Shirley will be sadly missed by her children: Penny (Dick) Davis, Jim (Judy) Smith, Cathy (Peter) Leriger, and Lorna (Wade) Westwick; brother Grant Hill; grandchildren: Tim (Shayna) Smith, Karen (Sasa) Subasic, Lindsey Leriger (Travis Sandul), Bruce (Ashley) Smith, Kenton (Larissa) Leriger, Jenna (Jason) Farrell, and Cory Westwick; great-grandchildren: Hanna, Luka, Alexis, Lincoln, Ella, Kade, Evan and Livia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Elder Albert Smith; brother Gordon Hill; parents Tom and Rea Hill; and parents in-law Albert and Elva Smith.
A small private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Her best friend Muriel Nybakken told us, “Your mom should have been a politician, as you never got any answers or information from her.” Your secrets were always safe with her.
