It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sherrill DeMarco, who, after a glittering operatic career in San Francisco and New York, shared her love of music with generations of singers at Alberta College Conservatory of Music. Sherrill died in her own home in Edmonton, surrounded by her adoring family. She was 92. Born in Edmonton Alberta, Sherrill was raised by her parents, Samuel Earl and Agnes Orme Lanyon, on their farm in Waskateneau Alberta, and in Edmonton, where she attended Garneau School and University High. Sherrill was predeceased by her prodigious grandmother Janet Orme Wallace Barron (Alameda, California), her devoted parents Earl and Agnes Lanyon, her beloved sister Janet Lanyon Blench, her musician husband Hank DeMarco, and his mother Vincenza DeMarco (New York). She is survived by her children: Agnes, Eva, Janet, David (Edmonton) and Michael (Helen) (London, England); her grandchildren: Mac (Kiera) (Los Angeles), Hank, Katerina (Edmonton) and Sam (London, England); as well as her nieces and nephew. An intimate family service was held in her home on the day of her passing. As per her wishes, cremation took place Tuesday morning, 29 June 2021. We want to thank the Emergency Responders for their expediency and extraordinary effort in attending to Sherrill that morning, and the Edmonton Police Service for the special care they provided the DeMarco family in our time of need. Due to current Covid restrictions, we will hold a celebration of Sherrill’s remarkable life and career in music when time allows. A notification of the event will be posted on the Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home website and on the Facebook pages of Eva, Agnes, David and Michael DeMarco.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Sherrill De Marco 2021..
