Sarah Dyck was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan on October 12, 1947, baby number nine of fourteen, to Jacob K. and Maria Doerksen. She grew up in the Blue Jay District of Carrot River, which is also where she attended school, finishing with Grade 8.
The most important decision Sarah ever made happened in 1964 when she was 17 years old. After reading in a New Testament given by the Gideons and having a conversation with her older brother Ron, Sarah accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and has served Him faithfully ever since. In 1966, she attended Nipawin Bible Institute to grow in her faith and her walk with God. While attending NBI, Sarah met her sweetheart, William Dyck, and after they both graduated from Bible school they were married on August 15, 1970 in Saskatoon. God was always first and foremost in their relationship and He blessed them with a beautiful marriage for 50 years. After their wedding, Bill and Sarah settled in Fosston, Saskatchewan, where Bill pastored the Fosston Evangelical Free Church. Sarah was a constant and strong support to her husband in his ministry and work and she did a great job creating a welcoming and loving home for the many who entered it. On September 24, 1972 they welcomed their daughter, Bonnie Anne Marie into their family. Their son, Kendall William James joined them on June 29, 1975. Bill and Sarah brought up their children in Fosston and served their church and community in countless ways. Years later their family expanded again as Bonnie married Chris, and Kendall married Melisa. The grandchildren that followed, Jessica, Emily, Dana and Brendan brought much delight as Sarah embraced her new role as Gramma and she was very proud of each member of her family.
Sarah’s interests included spending time with family, gardening, reading, playing piano, painting and crafts of any kind. Sarah was diagnosed with cancer at age 42 and bravely battled through two cancer surgeries and treatments. Later on, even throughout her long-term journey with Parkinsons, Sarah was courageous and did not complain even as her mobility became more and more limited.
Sarah’s life was characterized by her love for Jesus, and she showed this love so well to her family, friends and all who knew her. Sarah went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, May 17, 2021 at the age of 73.
Sarah leaves to mourn her husband Bill, one daughter and one son and their families: Bonnie and Chris (Jessica and Zane, Emily and Tyler), Kendall and Melisa (Dana, Brendan). She is also survived by her siblings Abe (Mary) Doerksen, Ron (Sheila) Doerksen, Margaret (Abe) Doerksen, John (Helen) Doerksen, Ann (John) Suderman, Ben (Esther) Doerksen, Agatha Suderman, Lena (Phil) Reimer, Frank (Debbie) Doerksen. Sarah was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Maria Doerksen; two brothers, Dave and Peter; and two sisters, Tina and Mary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons International in Canada, PO Box 3619 Stn Main, Guelph, ON N1H 7A2.
