Obituary of Sandra Hancock
The family of Sandra Rosa Hancock would like to inform one and all of her unexpected passing after a short illness on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Sandra was born in Botwood, NL on Christmas Eve, 1965. She was 55 years old.
Predeceased by her Dad, Hayward Hancock and Mom, Florence Hancock, Sandra leaves a large circle of friends and family including her spouse, Bradley Dean and his family, Her brothers: Jim (Patti), Bob (Marg), Sisters: Rita (Owen), Ruth (Ron), Beatrice (Henry). Her precious Nieces, Nephews, Great Nephews, Great Nieces, and Great Great Niece and their respective spouses. Her co-workers from St. John’s, Nl, Botwood, NL, Norwood, PA and especially her Natuashish Labrador Grenfell Health team and Natuashish Community members. Left too is close friend Joy Barrett who was a great part of her life since their graduation from The General School of Nursing, St. John’s NL and working together at the clinic in Natuashish.
She also worked at teaching the PCA Course at CNA at Grand Falls-Windsor, and took on other nursing duties outside her regular employment. She excelled at her profession and continued her education throughout her career.
Sandra’s special gifts were apparent from a very early age as she was a pleasant and somewhat shy child who was considerate of all who knew her. She was an ideal student who was respected by her teachers. Her choice of becoming a Nurse was in keeping with her kind, caring nature. Sandra shared love in all her activities. She enjoyed cooking and baking and sharing the fruits of her labours with many people. Her kitchen was always in use. She gave whatever she could to whomever needed it. Clothes, groceries, meals and advice were given to all with no thought of being repaid. Her main desire was to help others.
Sandra had important priorities. Babies ranked high on the list. She sent us many pictures of her little patients as they held her heart while she tended to their illnesses. Her other ‘babies’ were her three dogs. Her job consisted of the constant care of people who needed her medically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Her faith remained constant in the wake of unimaginable sadness and anxiety associated with her job. She felt her tenure in Natuashish was her calling, she would quote the Chorus, “Just Where He Needs Me, My Lord Has Placed Me”. She loved the community and its people unconditionally.
Sandra’s kind nature, devotion to people’s care, great sense of humour and listening to other’s problems will be extremely missed by all who knew her.
Her celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9th at the Salvation Army Citadel in Botwood, NL by invitation only, as per COVID restrictions. A streaming of the service will be available via Zoom – details will follow.
