Sam Achimov
May 15, 1931 – December 14, 2021
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Sam Achimov, who passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on December 14th, 2021 at the Ottawa General Hospital.
Born in Montreal, Sam was the son of the late Daniel (Dusan) and the late Emilia (Jovanovich) Achimov.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of the last 63 years, Louise Achimov and his children Donna and Dan.
Retired from Canadair and Bombardier, he loved his career in aviation. He was a hard worker and lived for celebrations with family. In the summer you could find him on the dock at the cottage overlooking his cherished Lake Newago. He and Louise wintered in Florida with the Serbian sunshine community, and he spent many happy years living at the Classics in the Riviera Condo. He enjoyed two Christmas celebrations (December 25 and January 7th). This was his favorite time of year, so please raise a glass in his honour as you gather with your families to celebrate this holiday season.
Popular with care-givers. Curious, positive and friendly until the end, the family sends a special thank you to all the staff at Alta Vista Manor who gave him a new home, and knew how to spoil and pamper him and comfort us. Special thanks to the Ottawa General Hospital Emergency Room team who cared for Sam until his very last breath. You are an EXTRAORDINARY team! Dr. Alison Dugan; Dr. Curley and Dr. Philipps.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private burial ceremony will take place in Montreal with immediate family and a celebration of Sam’s life will take place at a later date to be announced.
