1930 – 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Muriel Strohm on January 22, 2021, in Armstrong, BC, at the age of 90.
Ruth was born on December 24, 1930, in Toronto, Ontario, where she grew up with her sister Mae and her parents, Wilbert and Ina. Ruth graduated with a nursing degree in 1952, and went on to specialize in psychiatric nursing at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. Ruth had a strong commitment to social justice and to helping others. Her long and varied career in social work reflected this passion.
Ruth moved to Armstrong and married Gordon Strohm in 1982. Gordon predeceased her in 2011. Armstrong was home to Ruth for over 40 years. She was active with the Bargain Bin Women’s Hospital Auxiliary and participated with the miniature horse club. She loved music and arts and crafts and enjoyed travelling, especially to Mexico.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her son Michael (Jackie), his children Adrian (Susie) and Nigel (Lisa), and her daughter Anne (David) and children Cory (Amber), Robyn (Nick) and Marian. Ruth’s youngest daughter Charlyn passed away in 2005, and Ruth will be missed by Charlyn’s son Dustin. She is mourned by her stepchildren who were such an important part of her life in Armstrong, Chris (Dianne), Joanne, Helen and David (Katie), as well Chris and Dianne’s children, Shaun (Elizabeth), Nathan (Stacey) and Logan (Stacia), Helen’s children Kyle and Charlyn (Braiden), and David and Katie’s children, Kelly and Eva. She will also be missed by the 17 great grandchildren within her extended blended family.
A family gathering to celebrate Ruth’s life will take place at a later date.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Pleasant Valley Manor, who took such loving care of Ruth.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Ruth Muriel Strohm January 22nd 2021..
