Ruth Glydon passed peacefully in her sleep on July 1, 2021, at Fiddick’s Nursing Home in Petrolia, Ontario, with her daughter Marjorie and granddaughter Tami Langstaff, her Essential Caregivers, by her side. She was 94 years old.
Ruth was kind and generous and made an impact on everyone she met. She had strength of character which made it possible to overcome considerable adversity at various times during her life. She was unfiltered with a great sense of humour and a hearty laugh.
Ruth was married in 1947 to Wesley Glydon. They were Saskatchewan farmers for over 50 years and worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their children. A strong co-operator, Ruth was involved in numerous community organizations and activities in Saskatchewan, including being a local 4-H leader, Guild member, lifetime member of the Windthorst Horticultural Society, etc.
Ruth left Saskatchewan in 2015 and moved to Ontario to be with her daughter and grandchildren. She was the cherished Matriarch, and was included in all the family activities, events and celebrations. She loved playing cards, making puzzles and doing crafts! Highlights were gatherings with family, shopping with her daughter, gardening and baking with her granddaughter. A self-professed ‘news junkie’, she loved magazines, newspapers, television and books.
Her family will accompany her back to Saskatchewan, where she will be laid to rest beside Wes, who predeceased her eight years ago. Beloved by her children, Marjorie Glydon-Crowe in Ontario, Lyle Glydon in Saskatchewan, and Beverly (Terry) Nash in BC, her 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Forever missing her is her loving sister, Dorothy (Art) Vessey in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Ruth was predeceased by all her brothers.
Ruth will be sorely missed by her family and caregivers who spent precious time with her in Ontario. A very special Thank You to Ken Langstaff (Tami), grandson-in-law, who was constantly involved in Grandma’s activities and care. Thank You to all the staff at Fiddick’s who cared for Ruth with kindness and compassion while she resided there.
As her request, cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to Tubman’s Funeral Home in Kipling, Saskatchewan and Smith Funeral Home in Sarnia, Ontario. On-line condolences can be shared at www.SmithFuneralHome.ca.
Respecting Ruth’s wishes, in lieu of flowers or contributions, she would like you to do a Random Act of Kindness for a stranger, give your loved ones a big hug, and get your vaccines!
Her indomitable and effervescent spirit will shine on in those who loved her. She will always be remembered.
