It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roslyn Elaine Wintermans. She died peacefully on November 24, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 12, 1948, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Teresa (MacDonald) Murphy.
Roslyn grew up in Sydney and spent her young years as a champion highland dancer. She graduated from Holy Angels High School and went on to St. FX where she became a teacher. She had a passion for travel and took many trips around the world.
“Roz” enjoyed celtic music and was a regular at the Antigonish Highland Games. She was creative and always had a project. She enjoyed working in her garden and renovating her (many) homes over the years. Roslyn was especially gifted in her career as a teacher. Her influence will forever remain in her students and all of those who knew her.
“Rosie” was cherished as a friend by so many. She had a unique ability to make lifelong connections due to her warm personality and infectious smile and laugh. She was always the life of the party, and was radiant with positivity.
Roslyn’s children were her pride and joy and she was intensely devoted to her family. Affectionately known as “Nanny” she had a very special relationship with her granddaughters, Ella and Adrianna. She was their biggest fan, never missing a dance competition and always cheering the loudest. “Her girls” will treasure their many sleepovers and chats in the little red car. Named after her, it was a blessing she met her newest grandchild “Rosie” before her passing. Her beautiful zest for life will live on through her family.
Roslyn is survived by her daughters, Lucy Wintermans, Sydney and Ruby (Evan) MacEachern, Halifax; son, Colin (Sylvie) Wintermans, Sydney; granddaughters, Ella and Adrianna Wintermans and Rosie MacEachern; and brother, Tom (Kim) Murphy; niece, Claire, and nephew, Liam Murphy, Vancouver.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, Cabot Street on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
