Obituary of Ronald William Forbes
The Forbes family is saddened to announce the passing of Ronald William at the Ontario Finnish Rest Home on Monday, December 13, 2021, at the age of 91. Ron was born in Iroquois Falls ON. Predeceased by his parents Ed and Lucy. He is survived by his loving wife Grace. Cherished father of Tom (Joan), Jim (Cindy), and Bruce (Leanne). Adored grandpa of late Amanda, Scott, Kaleigh, Angie, Tyler, Aaron and Sean. Great grandpa of five great grandchildren. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Ed, Ralph, Gail, and Doug.
Ron was raised in Sault Ste. Marie. He and Grace were high school sweethearts and enjoyed 70 years of marriage. He was proud of his 5 years of service in the RCAF and a long career at Algoma Steel where he ended his career as Manager of Employee Relations. He loved to hunt, fish, canoe, play golf and enjoyed many years at his camp in Horseshoe Bay on Lake Superior. In retirement, Ron and Grace made St. Joseph Island, their home where they shared many beautiful memories. He was always very supportive of his family and taught us the value of hard work.
Many thanks to all the wonderful staff for the care given to him in his final year at the Ontario Finnish Home, Mauno Kaihla Koti. Thank you for the exceptional care in his final days. Special thank you to his family doctor, Dr. Bishop for the years of care. At Ron’s request no funeral service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society, Diabetes of Canada, or your charity of choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758).
