Ron Curtis
October 7, 1955 – November 25, 2021
Son. Brother. Husband. Father. Entrepreneur. Music Lover. Kind-hearted Friend.
On Thursday, November 25, Ron left this world following a short and difficult journey through cancer at the young age of 66. Born in Trepassey and later establishing roots in his wife’s hometown of Marystown, Ron was a strong and intelligent entrepreneur who built and managed a thriving refrigeration business on the Burin Peninsula for almost four decades. He was a loving husband to his wife Mary for 45 years and dedicated his life to supporting his family, including his four children from birth through university to present day.
Ron was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors and nature. In his final days, when asked where his heart longed to be, he response was simple: at his cabin in Garnish Pond salmon fishing and relaxing with Mary.
While reserved at times, Ron was a jokester with a twinkle in his eye thinking of his next prank or funny story to tell. He could light up a room with his voice, laugh and most importantly his warm and BIG heart. Always putting others first – even at the end when he was suffering with his illness, his main worry was not to be a burden on family and friends. No longer in pain, Ron can now rest in peace.
Leaving to love and cherish their time and memories of Ron are his loving wife Mary; son, Justin Curtis (Stacie); daughters Veronica Kennedy (Michael), Bernice Curtis (Steve), and Marie Curtis (Josh); sisters Mary Walsh (Patrick), Pat Tessier, Doris Pennell (Victor), and Helena Lomond (Charles); six grandchildren Katherine, Thomas, Parker, Mallory, Kallie, and Casey; as well as numerous relatives and friends, who loved Ron dearly.
He is now joining loved ones that have passed before him including his father and idol, William Curtis (lovingly referred to as ‘Billy John’); his mother Ita; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Veronica Lomond; brothers-in-law (Gilbert Lomond, Steve Tessier); and best friend/brother-in-law, John Clowe. We are sure they’re reunited and looking down upon us lovingly while having a drink, playing guitar and singing a few of their favourite tunes along with his predeceased friends Bill, Norm and Joe.
