Roland Johann Poehlmann
October 5, 1934 to October 6, 2021
Roland (Rollie) Poehlmann passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital the day after his 87th birthday.
Rollie was born in Pernick (Bärringen) Czech Republic. He came to Canada in 1939 with his family as part of a group of Sudeten German refugees who settled near Tupper Creek, B.C. The family later moved to Prescott where Roland discovered the St. Lawrence River and developed a lifelong passion for boating, fishing and generally being by the water. He worked at DuPont Maitland Works for 39 years prior to enjoying a long retirement.
Roland was for 66 years the beloved husband of Marcia whom he met when she threw a snowball at his car. He was the proud father of Debra, Michael and Marc, grandfather of Crystal, Michael, Amber, Grace, Ethan, Maxx, Andriana, Kate and Sam, and eight great grandchildren.
Roland was predeceased by his parents Albin and Barbara, sister Irene, brothers Henry and Bert, and two infant daughters Penny and Patricia.
He will be sadly missed by his family and will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and as an inspiration to us all.
There will be a private family committal.
Donations in Rollie’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged.
