Rodena Moore, 103
We are heartbroken to announce the death of our mother, Rodena Moore, on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Our mother was a strong, independent, and intelligent woman who adored and wholeheartedly cherished her family. She felt privileged to be on earth for 103 years. Her last wish was fulfilled as she had a very peaceful passing surrounded by her family. Rodena was born October 19, 1917, in Sydney Mines to Neil and Mary MacMullin. She was one of 12 children. She loved her brothers and sisters dearly, and was the last surviving member of her family.Rodena met the love of her life, her husband Stanley, and together they had seven children. Rodena was widowed at the young age of 47. At this time in 1964, she started to work outside of the home and successfully raised her children on her own. She was very proud to raise seven hardworking, “good kids”, as she would often say. Ma led a very full life. She was actively involved in the church and had a very strong faith. She was an active member of the CWL for many years. After retirement from the Harbourview Hospital, she enjoyed travelling internationally with her late dear friend, Mary Hopkins. She joined darts at 85 years old and won a championship. She was an avid bowler and achieved high scores well into her 90s.Until a few short weeks before her passing, Ma was able to live on her own, independently. Home Care was instrumental in providing her with her wish to remain in her home. She was provided with excellent care. She made many special bonds with these wonderful people who went above and beyond their call of duty. We cannot forget to mention her Jacob Street family, who were always there for her. We would also like to extend thanks to the nursing staff at the Northside General, along with Dr. Beth McCormick for her years of care, and recent care from Dr. Dawn Browne and Dr. Eugene Ignacio. Ma will always be remembered for her keen interest in politics. She never missed the opportunity to cast her ballot, right up until the last election, and she always enjoyed a good political debate. It was just last week that she was discussing the Federal Budget. Throughout her life, she was always very progressive in her thinking. She kept an open mind and accepted change as it came. She had an incredible sense of humour, even up until her final hours, when she left us with some witty comments that will always bring a smile to our faces. Ma was predeceased by her husband, Stan (Sammy), her sons, Stanley (Betty) and John (Anne), grandchildren, Stanley and James, sisters Katie, Margaret, Effie, Florence, Christina, and Annie Mae, and brothers, Archie, Roddie, Rory, John, and Michael. Left to mourn are her daughters, Rodina Braden (late, Victor) and Mary Ross (Donald), and sons, Michael (late, Geralyn), Hughie (Bernice), and Bernie. along with numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Despite life’s obstacles, she always turned to her faith for continued strength and support. She saw the positive in everyone and everything. She never complained. She had a wonderful sense of humor and lived life exactly the way she wanted. Her heart was always full of peace, joy, and unconditional love for all of her family and friends. She was a very selfless, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and we were all very fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn so many precious life lessons from her, including the true meaning of kindness, compassion and generosity. She was our family’s anchor and a true role model for those who loved her, without even knowing the impact she was having. She will be missed more than words can express. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at a later date at Holy Family Church. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
