The death of Robyn Kelly Sweet, of Dieppe and Bathurst, occurred peacefully on January 28, 2021, at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton at the age of 40.
Born in Bathurst, Kelly was the beloved wife and best friend of Drew Milton of Dieppe, daughter of Charles and Barbara (McArdle) Sweet of Bathurst.
Sister of Jennifer Sweet of Fredericton, Jeffrey (Faye) of Nashville, and Elizabeth Sweet (Jack Biseau) of Bathurst.
Besides her immediate family, she is survived by a special niece, Julia Fournier, of Fredericton, to whom she was like a second mother, and a special aunt, Elaine McArdle (Steve Kelland) of Ottawa, who was like a second mother to her.
She also dearly loved her other nieces and nephews, Cooper and Ty Bowden (Shelley and Ed) of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Poppy and Harold Sweet of Nashville, and Hannah Biseau of Bathurst.
She was also loved and cherished by her mother-in-law and father-in-law Gail and Bruce Milton of Bathurst, and by many aunts, uncles and cousins on the Sweet and McArdle sides of her family.
She adored spending time with family and friends, hosting gatherings, and planning activities. Kelly was joyful and fun-loving. She loved with her whole heart and lived well. She made much of the time she had. And fought unbelievably hard to stay with us, through three bouts with cancer, during which she stayed positive, dwelled in faith and was accompanied and cheered on with attentive, tender care, especially by Drew and her mom and dad.
Kel loved her dog, Gord, named for another love of hers, Gord Downey and The Tragically Hip. She loved going to concerts and had many musical adventures with Drew. She loved the beach, the sun, the water, reading, fashion, decorating, gardening, yoga and sports. As a youth, she swam competitively and gave lessons. She played varsity basketball, volleyball and soccer. She was a fan of hockey and football. Her favourite teams were the New England Patriots and recently the New York Islanders.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas University, and Bachelor and Master degrees in Education from UNB and was a hard-working and devoted teacher. She worked in schools in the Moncton area including Sunny Brae and Queen Elizabeth. And most recently for the Anglophone East school district. She was passionate about literacy and helping students who were in need of kindness, support, attention, and guidance.
Kelly’s family would appreciate donations in her memory to The Canadian Cancer Society, The Terry Fox Foundation, or charities that provide food, mental health care, recreational opportunities, and other support to children, such as Moncton Head Start, the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Kids Help Phone, food banks, newcomer support groups, or Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
