Obituary for Robert William Albert O’Brien
Robert William Albert O’Brien
Robert O’Brien passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Scarborough General Birchmount Campus after a long struggle with Parkinson/Alzheimer disease. He was 83 years old. Robert leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Marion; his adoring children Jeffrey O’Brien (Tracey) and Janine Prentice (Scott); and three wonderful granddaughters, Mikaela, Hana and Hailee. Robert is predeceased by his brothers Steve (???) and Tom (Cheryl), and is also survived by his sisters Shelly (Ron) and Pat (Blaine). He will be missed by family and friends.
Bob was a lifetime resident of Toronto, attending Western Tech where he graduated in 1955 as a Mechanical Draftsman. He started his career with the Metropolitan Conservation Area and shortly moved on to become a staff appraiser and then prominent partner in Davis, Hicks and O’Brien Limited. He retired in the mid-nineties and turned his talents towards home improvements and building his dream cottage in Kirkfield, Ontario. While at the cottage, he enjoyed his love for fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. His passion for creating and building carried over to any organization with which he became involved.
Bob was a very active member of Freemasonry who provided Antiquity with strong leadership and guidance for over 40 years. He was truly a trailblazer achieving Master Mason status in 53 days and continued to participate over the years in Antiquity Lodge No.571, Scottish Rite, and Rameses Shrine in Toronto. He had a passion for travel and enjoyed the fellowship he had not just in Ontario but within the United States as well through his active participation at the North American Hillbilly Shrine conventions. Closer to home, Bob was a member of Fallingbrook Presbyterian Church in Scarborough, Ontario. He was frequently called upon to show leadership, and he did so in a manner of excellence.
His gentle smile, calm words of wisdom, leadership, and friendship will live on in our hearts.
