Robert Carleton (CARL) Vail
1936-2021
R. Carleton Vail of Harvey, York Co., NB passed away on May 5, 2021 at
Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Carl was born on December 21, 1936 at
Brockway, NB, a son of the late W. Artemas and Gladys (Smith)
Vail.
Carl attended Lawrence Station High School. He started working with
his father as a land surveyor chainman and progressed to instrument
man in 1960, finally apprenticing and writing the Survey exam in 1964
and became a member of the Association of NB Land Surveyors. Carl was
then employed by NB Power as the Legal Surveyor in the field on the
Mactaquac Hydro project. In 1968, he took over his father’s
practice and formed Vail’s Forestry & Surveying Ltd.
Company, which he owned until his retirement in 2003.
Carl is survived by a brother, Cedric Vail (Marilyn); two nieces,
Meredith (Reid) and Melanie (Allan); one nephew, Lauren (Karen);
several great nieces and nephews; a special friend, Mary Hill and her
family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Ralph Vail
(late Avis); a chosen sister, Dianne Parfait (late Foster) and a
nephew Adrian.
A graveside service will be held at Brockway Cemetery, Brockway, NB on
Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 11 am with social distancing respected with
Rev. George Clark officiating.

has suggested the Brockway Cemetery, Cancer Society or charity of the
donor’s choice.
