Obituary
Robert passed away suddenly in Burns Lake on Jan. 14, 2021. He was born to Swedish immigrant Peter Anderson and Gladys Anderson (nee Ekman, of Smithers), and raised on the Anderson farm on Hungry Hill in Telkwa. From the time he was able to swing an axe (probably even before that), Robert knew hard work. He worked on the farm until taking over after Pete’s retirement. He decided cattle wasn’t his calling and moved to town in the early 1990’s.
Robert was as fearless and independent as they come and could accomplish anything. He had an unparalleled work ethic, and literally did not know how to take a day off. From ranching, to owning and driving a logging truck, to running a gravel excavation outfit, to plowing snow, when he made up his mind to do something, it was as good as done.
Robert was smart as a whip, with endearing sass and quick comebacks rivalled only by his late son Peter (October 2015). He had a relentless sense of humour and a nickname for everyone. Whether you liked yours or not, once he picked it, that was your name. If he liked you, he was in your corner forever, and if he didn’t like you… Well, sorry for your luck! Never to be outdone, he took a little too much pride in reminding, and then proving, he could still keep up with the young bucks.
Robert had an incredible sense of adventure and loved snowmobiling in the mountains. He had a great appreciation for the expansive nature of the Bulkley Valley and often commented on how lucky he felt to live in “God’s country.”
Robert was a true original, one-of-a-kind, impossible to replicate man. Although we had to say goodbye far too early, his memory will live on when we enjoy the beautiful outdoors, live life on the edge and give our loved ones a good-natured razzing.
A Celebration of Life will be held when gatherings are permitted. If you’d like to share a personal story or photographs of Robert, please email to RememberingRobertAnderson@gmail.com.
Robert is survived by his children Donna (Chris), Kathy, Ashley, Kimberly (Finn); his wife Judith; his sisters Judy (Al) and Yvonne (Doug), grandchildren Katie-Amber, Morgan (Tyler), Hannah, Riley, Blake, Ciera, Montana, Dakota; nieces Amanda, Melanie, Diana and Tracey. He is predeceased by his brother Frank, nephew Barry, and son Peter.
