It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rick on April 24, 2021. He is survived by his mother, Lorna, brother, Rob (Teresa), sister, Sara, of Vancouver, B.C., along with loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many old and newly made friends. Rick was predeceased by his father, Gordon Rabey.
At an early age, Rick desired to follow in his father’s footsteps and thus became a journeyman ironworker. He was the person many of us looked to if we needed a fence repaired, a roof cleaned, a room painted or holes dug for rhododendrons. He was the quintessential “Jack of all Trades.” Rick was not a stranger to the kitchen…never afraid to roll up his sleeves and start cooking. He would often regale us of his belly-buster spaghetti or pork loin roast dinners that he would cook for his Mom.
He was a fervent follower of NASCAR racing from his teenage years to adulthood. Rick was a lover of animals and their response to him was enviable. Above all, Rick was a passionate and caring individual, one who would often put friends before himself. He volunteered at the Mustard Seed on a weekly basis. An infectious smile and passion for fun was ever present when you spent time with Rick.
Rick leaves behind family and friends who will miss him profoundly. We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with family and friends who also left us too soon. Say his name often and his memory will remain strong.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mustard Seed mustardseed.ca
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held when COVID restrictions allow. Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park.
