Richard’s Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and sadness that the family of Richard Alvin Heithoff announce his passing on August 24, 2021, at the age of 69.
Rick will be greatly missed and forever cherished by his wife of 44 years, Lucille, their daughters Kara (Jeff) Machnicki and Laura (Bill) Deschamps and their grandchildren Landon, Kali, Carter, and Ava.
He will be remembered by his siblings Joan, Nancy (Bob), Wayne (Marg), Randy (Kim), Tom (Judi) and Terry (Elaine). Rick will also be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Jean and his sisters-in-law Cheryl (Rob), Norma (Andy) and Patty (Jim) along with many nieces and nephews.
Rick is predeceased by his parents Alvin and Verlene Heithoff, his father-in-law Earl, his brother-in-law Jim and his nephew Chris.
Rick was born in Neligh, Nebraska and spent his youth in nearby Petersburg. On a very cold January day in 1965 he and his family moved to Trout River Lodge, Ontario Canada where his love for camp life began. Fishing, hunting, and trapping soon became his passion.
Upon graduation he moved to Des Moines Iowa and worked for Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad where he made some lifelong friends working his way south through Oklahoma.
In the early 70’s Rick learned of his parents’ wish to retire and moved back to Canada to once again become very involved in camp life. In 1977, after a whirlwind romance, Rick married the love of his life, Lucille, and within a few short years they had two daughters and purchased Trout River Lodge.
Rick loved his family and camp life. He was always happy to share his love, respect, and knowledge of nature with guests from camp, longtime friends, and his grandchildren.
Those closest to Rick saw not only his generous and kind heart but also experienced his mischievous, fun-loving side. Always a bit of a prankster, laughter seemed to follow Rick wherever he went.
It was not uncommon for Rick to load up his gear and head out on an adventure on a moment’s notice. Many great memories were made on remote lakes and cabins throughout the north.
After owning Trout River Lodge for 30 years Rick and Lucille retired and moved to Ear Falls. However, even after retirement Rick could often be found at camp or close by at his cabin on Bruce Lake. This cabin became his favourite retreat where he and Lucille spent a lot of time making memories together with friends and family.
A casual, outdoor Celebration of Rick’s life will be held at Trout River Lodge on Sunday, September 26th, 2021 at 1:00pm. Interment will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire donations may be made in Rick’s name to the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Hospital Auxiliary to help provide comfort items for patients in their care. Donations can be made through the Red Lake Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
