REVER, Arnold
1940 – 2021
Arnold Rever spent his last day doing what he loved most: restoring vintage cars, scouring the countryside for parts and other needed objects, talking with friends and staying close to Carol, his best friend and wife of 60 years.
On Saturday evening, April 24, 2021, at age 80, he passed away suddenly, and will forever be cherished by her, along with their son Todd (Manon), and daughter Judi (John) and grandchildren, Emilie, Amanda, Aïsha and Mikaëlle. Arnold also leaves behind his brother Gary (Darlene) and his brother-in-law Gary (Kathy), several cousins, nieces and nephews and many dear friends, both near and far.
Born in Rock Island in 1940, Arnold was the eldest son of Wallace Rever and Marion Perron. He grew up street smart in Tomifobia and went to Sacred Heart High School in Newport, Vermont. After getting married and starting a family, he became an autodidact extraordinaire, spending several decades building and selling homes; he excelled at starting projects from scratch, making lists, taking on formidable tasks that would daunt others – and mastering them. In the 1980s he owned a local store, repairing appliances and electronics, and in the 1990s he reinvented himself again by buying several acres of land in Beebe that he turned into a beautiful farm. Throughout his life Arnold had an enduring affection for animals of all kinds; he would talk to them constantly and often let them roam free. On any given day visitors could watch his goose Fred and favorite cow Annie follow him along the slopes and ley of the land. His dearest pets were his dogs Rambo, who rode in the passenger seat for years, and Pookie, who was most comfortable on his lap.
In his later years, he developed a passion for taking apart and refurbishing antique cars, driving around the Eastern Townships for just the right part, tool, or color of paint for his blue 1931 Model A, his black 1963 Galaxie, his red 1978 Firebird, and his final masterpiece he was working on — a turquoise and white 1955 Fairlane.
Arnold enjoyed Carol’s cooking, country music, camping, driving down unfamiliar roads, and leaving the house and car doors unlocked. He especially preferred using nicknames instead of people’s real names. He always lived life on his own terms. He was pre-deceased by — and very devoted to — Carol’s beloved parents, Vera and Charlie Sisco. His family and friends will forever keep him in their hearts.
