MacPhee, Peter Wilfrid, 86,
Highland Drive, Antigonish, passed away on December 19, 2021 at St.
Martha’s Hospital with family by his side.
Born in River Bourgeois, Richmond County, he was the only son
of Alex (Nick) and Mary Ellen (Thibeau) MacPhee. He was a beloved
husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father-in-law, Godfather
and Veteran. He was also a loyal friend & neighbor, a proud
Scot and faithful Christian.
He is survived by his three sons: Alec (Shena), Maurice
(Laura) both of Antigonish and Blaise (Maureen) of Hubley NS; six
grandchildren who he truly treasured; Sarah (Jack), Nolan, Roma,
Grant, Luke and Eva; brothers-in-law, Carman (Sarann) Avery,
Guysborough; Jude (Vaughnie) Avery, Larry’s River,
and sister-in-Law, Roma (Sonny) Kennedy, St.
Margaret’s Bay. He was predeceased by his wife Beulah
(Avery) MacPhee; infant daughter Patricia;
sisters, Racheal (Estwood) Davidson and Claire
both formerly of River Bourgeois.
After his years of service in the Canadian Provost Corps
(Halifax), Dad commenced his work life with Simpsons, then to Maritime
Co-op and finally to the NS Department of Community Services where he
served Antigonish & Guysborough Counties for 30
years.
It was as a volunteer where dad felt he gave the most to his
community and felt the most rewarded. He was a founding Director of
Recovery House in the 1970’s, because he saw a tremendous
need. He brought the Christopher Leadership Course to Antigonish where
he mentored and coached young community leaders. He was a past
Chairperson of St. Ninian’s Parish Council, past Chairperson
of the Diocesan Council for the Diocese of Antigonish, Commissioner of
the Supreme Court of NS and was a founding member of Christmas for
Kids and later Christmas Daddies for our town & county. Former
softball Umpire in Chief for Antigonish-Guysborough counties, past
president of Antigonish Slo-Pitch League. Volunteering also found him
delivering Meals-on-Wheels, setting up Lifelines for seniors, sitting
with palliative patients, and proctoring exams for dozens of St. FX
students over the years.
We would like to thank Drs. Mike MacKenzie; Dr. Andrew
Dalziel; Dr. Kapasi, Dr. Kate MacEachen; the nurses at St.
Martha’s Emergency Department and in the Palliative Care
Unit. You made him (and us) feel like he was your only
patient. He had a firm faith and belief that God guided your capable
hands. Once again St. Martha’s has proven to us that there
are indeed Angels among us.
As per dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and
there will be no visitation. A private, family funeral service will be
held at a later date. In the absence of visitation we ask that you
listen to a fiddle tune and raise a cup of tea in his
name.
Charitable donations can be made to the Antigonish Community
Food Bank. Online condolences:
