Obituary of Pauline (Hicks) Harborne
It is with sadness, but peace of heart that we announce the passing of Pauline (Hicks) Harborne on Monday, March 8, 2021. Pauline passed away at the Countryside Residence Special Care Home in Port Elgin, NB at the amazing age of 105.
Born in Upper Sackville, NB on April 20, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Chalmers and Margaret (George) Hicks.
Pauline graduated from Mount Allison Ladies College in 1937 with a Licentiate of Music in Violin and she played with the Mount Allison Symphony and other orchestral groups. Her passion was her family, friends, music and teaching violin and cello. She has provided counselling, guidance, and solid instruction to more than 150 budding musicians. Pauline was a Life Member of the NB Registered Music Teachers Association, and an inductee to the Sackville Arts Wall of Fame and she received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2012.
Pauline will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ian (Karen) Harborne and Donald (Sally Cogswell) Harborne; her grandchildren, Christopher (Katherine Yorke) Harborne and Lynnsy Chapman; her great-grandchildren, Aedan, Derrick and Felix Harborne, as well as by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Don in June 1983; her cherished grandson, Michael in March 2013; her brother, C. Gerald Hicks as well as by her sister, Marjorie Paterson.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Crystal, Andy and the staff at the Countryside Residence in Port Elgin, NB for their exceptional and loving care of Pauline.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Pauline’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service for her immediate family will take place at the funeral home. The burial will take place in the spring in the Four Corners Cemetery.
If so desired, donations in memory of Pauline may be made to the Sackville Music Festival, Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.
