Obituary of Patricia Coghlan
COGHLAN, Patricia
1927 – 2021
This beautiful woman, full of strength, courage and tenacity left us on April 15th, 2021 to be with her son Thom and husband Jack.
Mom was an incredible mother to Thom, Shirley, Laurie, Jan, Lynne and Scott.
Born in Calgary on April 18, 1927, Pat spent her early childhood years in Carstairs before moving with her mother and five sisters to reunite with their father in Saskatoon. She attended Wilson, Victoria and City Park Collegiate before going into the City Hospital Nursing Program. There she met a handsome RAF flying officer, returning from WWII. She went from being his nurse to being his wife and raising a wonderful family she was most proud of.
Pat hosted bridge clubs, afternoon coffee parties, New Year’s Eve parties and Christmas Dinners with up to 30 relatives who to this day consider “725” as the ultimate Christmas experience. She had many sport interests, including golfing at Waskesiu in the Lobstick as a teenager. The family has had many happy years up there. She took up curling in her adult life and enjoyed watching the Brier and the Scotties. She was also a Rough Riders fan, making weekend trips to Regina home games with Dad and other couples. Mom was also a loyal Blue Jays fan, watched all the games on TV and attended a couple of live games, a real highlight for her.
She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family and for friends, passing that passion and her recipes on to her children. Her banana bread is coveted by her grandchildren as well.
Her passion for gardening spawned a massive abundance of garden vegetables, edible until Christmas. Oh, and she pickled and jammed and relished too.
Mom didn’t miss a City Hospital Nursing Reunion until 2019. These were a great source of fun with Dearest friend Jeanne Hargreaves as they looked forward to who would attend from their Grad year.
Mom was always a caregiver, looking after family members in their final years. She sacrificed so much for her family who was the center of her universe. She volunteered her spare time what little she had, to Meals on Wheels, Hospital gift shop, School Libraries, Christmas Food hampers and as a life longer member of St. John’s Cathedral, participated in the annual Chicken Pot Pie fundraisers.
Mom supported and encouraged her children in their sports and activities, never missing a concert, competition, game or recital.
Pat leaves behind to miss her dearly, daughters Shirley (Peter), Laurie, Jan (Wally), Lynne (Ron), and son Scott (Nancy), and grandchildren Cara, Steven, Evan, Kelly, Matt, Eric, Mark, Anna, Alison, Brent and Nolan.
She also is survived by great grandchildren Jack, Olivia, Leandro and Eva as well numerous nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her son Thom and husband Jack, her mother and father, Irene and William Pryor, and her sisters Phyllis, Gwen, Nan, Donna and Peggy.
Our family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Oliver Lodge and the staff for the excellent care they provided to Mom and the kindness they extended towards our family. It was a special place for Mom to spend her final days. We would especially like to thank Melissa, Jillian, Kathryn, Karen and Dolly.
