Doug passed away suddenly due to complications from cancer. Pre-deceased by his wonderful wife Shirley, his loving partner of 60 years. Beloved father of Lynn (Dugald), Karen (John), Don (Lynda) and Janet (John) and proud grandfather to Leigh, Sandy and Sophie Cameron, Curtis Vidan and Jack Morrow.
Doug had a tremendously successful 37 year career with Seagram Distillers where he progressed from lab supervisor to Vice-President of Production for Canada, and made strong and life-long friendships. He held many positions across Canada and was most proud of establishing and being the first manager of a new modern distillery in Gimli Manitoba.
While he had to slow down in recent years, he was active his entire life and was a true outdoors enthusiast: from playing team sports during high school and college, to sailing, curling, travelling, skiing, camping, canoeing, golfing and cycling.
He was also a lover of music, and would pick up and try any instrument. He was a rare man who loved, and excelled at dancing, so was an always-in-demand dance partner.
He enjoyed song and skits, and never ignored an opportunity to perform in local productions or with friends and family at Christmas time.
Doug was a proud and engaged alumnus of MacDonald College Class of ’51, and active in Rotary.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Maxwell Residence for the support over the past 6 years, and a special thank you to Marj Niven, who brightened his life tremendously these last years. In keeping with his wishes and COVID restrictions there will be no service. If desired, contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
