Oscar’s Obituary
Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, May 29, 2021, Oscar Smith of Chance Cove, NL, aged 68 years.
Predeceased by parents, Eli and Winifred (Snook) Smith; sisters, Audrey and Pearl; and brother, Allen Joseph.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his daughters, Jackie (Dale) and Kim (Matt); son, Gregory (Mary); grandchildren, Cody, Destani, Mackenzie, Olivia, Nolan, Eli, and Owen; siblings, Eldred (Shirley), Eric, James (Bernadette), Elwood (Karen), Alvina, Clara (Bob), and Lillian (Alex); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
Dad had a personality like no other which was larger than life itself, his door was always open to whom ever needed a place to stay, a shoulder to cry on or a friendly ear to have a chat, which was never judgmental and held to the strictest of confidentiality no matter what the subject of conversation. He was an exceptional father and grandfather. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his grandchildren. He always went above and beyond, as long as they were happy. From allowing them to do pedicures, paint his toe nails, put face makeup all over him, hair chalk to baking cakes! He always made it fun no matter what they did! He will always be remembered for his great sense of humour, his infectious laugh and his kind and generous heart. Right from his silly language and silly nicknames…. He was the life of the party. As he always said, “another clean shirt and I’m gone, Hollie bollie folks…” until we meet again.
Cremation has taken place.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a gathering of family and friends will be announced at a later date.
