Mary Olivia Genge
August 20, 1940 -July 30, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Mary Olivia Genge (nee Upshall) known by many as “Livie”.
Livie was born August 20, 1940 in Little Harbour East, NL to Reuben and Doris (Peddle) Upshall. On April 20, 1965 she married the love of her life, Cecil Genge from Anchor Point, NL. Livie work as both a teacher and postmistress, but ultimately chose to spend many years working from home to support Cecil’s fishing business where she could also find much joy in raising her 4 children.
She leaves behind her husband Cecil, her sons: Dennis (Leona) Genge of Yellowknife, NT who are parents to Christy and Percy Atkins, Derek (Georgina) Genge of Pasadena, NL who are parents of Kyle and Curtis, and Dion Genge of St. John’s; and her daughter Denise (Steven) Lockhart of Hartsville, PE who are parents of Lexi and Seth. Livie also leaves behind her brothers: Barry (Marion) Upshall, James (Jean) Upshall; and her sister: Irene Genge and Rubena Genge.
She was predeceased by her parents, Reuben and Doris Upshall, brothers George, Dave and Clarence, two younger sisters Bertha and Elsie, and two brothers-in-law Maxwell and Gerald Genge.
While it is true that Livie loved some of the finer things in life like a good book, the bright warm sun, and a great cup of coffee it is hard to think of anything that brought her more joy than travelling and being with her grandchildren, whom she loved without restraint. She will be missed by all but we take solace in the knowledge that she is now free to fly without earthly limitations.
Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port Au Choix on Monday August 2nd from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon, 1:00-5:00 pm and 6:00 -8:00 pm, Tuesday August 3 from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon and 1:00 -3:00 PM. Visitations will be to a maximum of 15 people at a time in compliance with Covid-19 Government regulations. Masks are required. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date.
