Norman Stacey Essery passed away on June 10, 2021 with family by his side (thank you so much KBRH). He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Bonnie, children Roger (Neva) Essery, Kari Essery, Stacey (Tony) Kabatoff, and grandchildren Devon, Leanne, and Kyle Kabatoff.
The legacy Norm has left behind is “giving of oneself in dedication to his community”. He was a Lion’s member in the Slocan Valley for over 40 years, on the Passmore Hall Board, as well as a Board of Director at the local Credit Union. Norm loved his community. When Bonnie and Norm purchased their retirement home in Passmore, Norm built a Gazebo on their land so they could entertain all their friends and family. This little part of paradise was also the venue for neighbourhood groups to use. Norm and Bonnie supported in any way they could.
Norm’s employment started at a young age. Born in New Westminster, but growing up in Sooke, BC, his many jobs took him all over BC from the Yukon to Seton Portage. In Seton Portage he was the co-owner of Baker-Essery Logging and Milling Company for a number of years before starting his career with BC Hydro where he would work for the next 32 years.
As he closed in on retirement with BC Hydro, Norm acquired a horse he rode on back country trips for weeks at a time in the Chilcotin-Caribou area. Camping under the stars and in rustic cabins with cowboy coffee in the morning along with spectacular scenery was some of his most relaxing times.
Norm and Bonnie loved to travel and in their retirement re-visited all the places they had been as well as a cross-country trip through all of Canada’s provinces. In the winter they liked to travel south and spent a few winters as Snowbirds.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to this man that cared so much for the people who were in his life and the world around him, but his family and friends will have their hearts filled with memories of his sense of humour, kindness, and love.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 18, 2021 at Norm and Bonnie’s “Bottom Field” from 10 to 2. Storytelling will begin at 11:30 for anyone wanting to share a memory or story they have about Norm.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Norman Stacey Essery June 10th 2021..
