Obituary of Mona Mabel Sanford
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dearest beloved mother who died suddenly Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Hants Community Hospital, after a long battle with COPD.
Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Earl Blanchard and Mabel Dorothy (Cox) Bonn.
Mona grew up in Windsor and married her soulmate, Danny, in 1965. Together, they settled in the town of Hantsport where they raised their two daughters, Sandra and Sheri. She was an active member of the Hantsport United Church, where she taught Sunday school, was a CGIT leader and enjoyed participating in their yearly Bizzar event. She especially loved the Secret Pal Gift Exchange year after year.
Mona worked at CKF for over 25 years. In the early years, Mona loved going out to dances. She was on the Hantsport women’s bowling team. Mona loved the Toronto Blue Jays and crocheting. She enjoyed playing lawn darts and trying new things such as skating, curling, mini putting, and even had a try at waterskiing, which turned into more like bumskiing.
She always made everyone laugh. She would love doing the « Herman » skits at many family gatherings at Whalen Lake and Sunken Lake. Mona loved a good ol’ Rummoli or poker game. She loved being silly at the camp with « Granny’s in the hats ». Mona was funny without even knowing it. She had an infectious laugh and her little sayings brought so much laughter to those who knew her. She had a heart of gold and would warm your heart. She was our rock.
She loved her grandsons and always got a big chuckle watching them hunt for the hidden Easter eggs. Mona would often attend their baseball, hockey, basketball and football games as well as gymnastic events.
Mona was known for her egg sandwiches, homemade baked beans and brown bread. She loved making pickles and jams, too.
At the age of 53, Mona got her grade 12 GED. She was a role model for her family and understood the value of education, hard work, saving for a raining day and making sacrifices for her family.
Over last few years, Mona enjoyed spending time on her iPad, playing games online with her sister, Linda, and sister-in-law, Shirley, connecting with family and friends, and listening to live music on Facebook. She will be sadly missed.
She made a big impact on our lives. We are the daughters we are today because of you, Mom. We love you and you’ll always be with us. ❤
Mona is survived by her daughters, Sandra Montgomery and Sheri (George) Mercieca; grandsons, Joshua and Kyle Mercieca, Matthew Montgomery; brothers, Kevin (Margaret), Jimmy (Isabel), Gary (Heather); sister, Linda (Doug) Patterson; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in law.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Danny; brother, Leonard Bonn; son-in-law, Micheal Montgomery.
Special thanks to Dawn Lowe NP, Mary-Ann RN and all the wonderful homecare staff from CBI. Mona holds a special place for you all.
