Moe’s Obituary
Joseph Etienne Maurice Provencal, known to everyone as “Moe” was born in Vimy, Alberta on February 14, 1942. He was the third of seven children of Wilfred and Gertrude Provencal.
Moe moved to the Peace Country in 1964 working as a grain buyer in Nampa. It was at this time that he met the love of his life, Anne. His love of playing sports took him to Peace River in 1966 where he began working in an autobody shop. Moe did well in the business as he eventually successfully co-owned a body shop for the next 25 years. In 1990 the opportunity to transition to a job in the insurance industry came up and he worked in this field until his retirement in 2015.
Moe was actively involved in many sports in Peace River playing with the Stampeder senior hockey team, senior baseball, a referee and spending the summers on the golf course. His love of sports led to his true passion of coaching. Moe coached baseball and hockey but he is most known for his 25 plus years coaching the Peace River AA Midget Club where he touched the lives of so many young players and families in the Peace Country.
Moe is predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Gertrude Provencal.
He is survived by his wife Anne, daughter Jackie (William) Forman, Pamela (Cameron) Dechant, and Nadine (Jason) Doris as well as 7 grandchildren; Benjamin and Robert Forman, Brayden and Megan Dechant and Abbey, Grace and Emily Doris.
A (private) Memorial Mass will be held from Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Peace River (AB) on Monday, January 3, 2022. Attendance is restricted by invitation only.
