Obituary
Mervin Norbert “Doc” Geres of Regina passed away in the early hours of September 27, 2021, at Regina General Hospital.
Mervin was born in Langenburg on September 8th, 1952 to Bertha (Frick) and Albert Geres. He grew up family farm between MacNutt and Langenburg.
As a young man Mervin loved playing baseball. He was given the nickname Doc by the MacNutt Kings in his younger years as he was in charge of their first aid kit. Mervin loved telling jokes and stories, doing imitations and pulling pranks on people. His quick wit was always ready to spar.
Mervin met his partner Stella, and together they were avid outdoorsmen. They enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. You were guaranteed to have two things in their home; junk food and animals. They always loved having children around them; nieces, nephews and grandchildren opted to spend time with them as it was a place of fun as a child.
Mervin’s sense of humor connected him to kids, reminiscent of the character in the movie Uncle Buck (which he sometimes was referred to). Stella would say when there were lots of children around that “these are all of our kids.”
Stella passed away in 2002 leaving a huge void in Mervin’s life. He struggled as he transitioned to a life without her. Numerous family, friends and acquaintances continued to support him throughout these trying times. Mervin was also predeceased by this father Albert in 1983, and his mother Bertha in 2008. He is survived by his sister Joan (Rick) and their family, as well as his stepchildren and their families.
I bring you all my mistakes, Lord
The failures of today,
I hope You will forgive them,
And sweep them all away.
So many things I should have said,
The things I’ve left undone,
The battles I avoided,
And those I should have won.
Then when tomorrow comes, Lord
A day unspoilt and new,
With all my failures left behind,
I’ll start afresh with You.
