Melvin Amerigo LeRose of Trail, BC, died peacefully on April 27, 2021 at the age of 90.
Melvin was born to Filomena Maria (Catalano) and Giuseppe Rocco LeRose. He was the last of six children and grew up in the Gulch surrounded by an extended Italian family and many friends.
As a young man, Melvin joined his father and brother in their business, West Kootenay Wholesale, where he worked until retirement.
Throughout his long life, Melvin was involved with many local organizations including serving on the Holy Trinity (OLPH) Parish council, holding life-long membership with the Colombo Lodge, and achieving Fourth Degree status with the Knights of Columbus.
He was particularly proud of the Knights’ community service activities: he marched in the Trail parade well into his 80s, served the monthly pancake breakfast that welcomed everyone, and participated in the annual Trail Warfield Citizen of the Year celebrations.
Melvin enjoyed walking the bridges, his double espresso, and attending the annual LeRose/Catalano cousins’ party in Vancouver.
He will be remembered as a gentle man who always had a joke or a conversation for everyone.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife Marisa (Mauro), his children Deborah (Jan Altshool), David and Robert, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings (Rosie Bertuzzi, Sarah Muzzin, Helen Della Mattia, Inesse Ripoli, Roland).
Due to COVID restrictions, a private Mass of Christian burial will take place, followed by entombment at the Trail Mausoleum. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Foundation at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
