Marylea was always active and engaged in her community. She was the first woman in Canada to chair a public transit commission, serving in Belleville in that capacity for 9 years, starting in 1968. She was an elected trustee for Hastings County School Board, an elder, and President of United Church Women as well as President of a local political party. She had a long-standing love and dedication to the Canadian Federation of University Women, and held many positions at the local, provincial and national levels, doing many good works over 60 years and more.
Private cremation services entrusted to Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel (613) 968-2273. A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations to the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), cfuw.org would be appreciated.
