Obituary of Mary (May) Colbourne
It is with overwhelming heartbreak the family of Mary (May) Colbourne (Follett) announce her sudden passing in the C.C.U. of the Health Science Centre.
May loved her family immensely and was the love of Ray Colbourne’s life. Ray and May were married 53 years. He loved her more with each passing day and will continue to love her for the rest of his life.
May has two children Elsie (Jon & fur babies Gigi & Grover) and Craig. They will be lost without her solid advise and continuous love. Family was everything to May. Her two granddaughters, Abby (Dan), Zoey and her two grandsons Gabe and Sam always brought her such joy. Nanny May was always so much fun and children who were around her never wanted to leave.
May was from a large Catholic family and is survived by Muriel, Jackie (Marlo), Alice (Jim), Bridie (Mike), Vickey (Sam) and brother-in-law Stan. Her Colbourne in-laws: Pauline, Don (Ida), Fred, Brian (Sandra), Pam (Jim), and sister-in-law Genny, as well as many nieces and nephews will miss her wonderful meals, knack for decorating, funny stories and sound advise.
Christmas was May’s favourite time of year. She planned all year for the season. Anyone who came to our house at Christmas saw the extraordinary display of decorating, traditions and food. She was gifted and made everyday special. Christmas will never be the same without her. Life won’t be the same without her.
May had a close circle of friends, Marie and the Card Club Girls whose friendship she cherished. She had a second family in the Humber family who lived next door to her for 50 years. She felt very blessed to have these individuals in her life.
May was predeceased by her parents Gerald and Elsie Follett, her in laws Harold and Nellie Colbourne, along with her brother Gerald, sisters Vivian, Joan, and Margie, her fur baby Cocoa, her niece Tracey, nephews Billy, Gerald and Phillip; brother in laws Ted, Ron, Ed, Dave, Bill, Phil and sister in laws Marg, Marg, and Elsie.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Boland whose compassion and care was exemplary. Thank you to Dr. Harnett and his cardiology team, as well as the nurses of HSC C.C.U. Thank you to Dr. Mark Smallwood for always giving her a hug and reassuring her with kind words and Meghan, the pharmacist, who was always a phone call away and went over and above to take care of her. Thank you to family friend, Dr. Kellie LeDrew for being a rock, providing a guiding light and continuous support to the family.
Cremation has taken place and visiting will take place on Monday, December 13 between 10 am. and 3 pm. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Mark’s Avenue. Due to Covid restrictions, only 30 people at a time will be able to visit. A small family service will be held in the chapel at 4:00 pm officiated by family friend Rev. Canon Paulette Bugden.
Donations in her memory can be made to Sunrise Animal Hospital in Mount Pearl in the name of her fur grand babies Gigi and Grover’s for their continued medical care. She loved their unconditional love and the comfort they brought.
When you went toward the Light, you took my heart with you. I miss you so much. I look for signs from you every day. I just hope that you can feel my love in Heaven.
