Keeping up with family, us kids affectionately called mom ‘phoney’ because she loved talking to people on the phone. Mom kept family abreast of family matters because she talked to everyone. Her mother a few times a day, her kids several times a day, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, even childhood friends. And when mom started getting sick, that was when all those people knew something was wrong, because Freda wasn’t calling. She loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids so very much. Mom had a very deep faith in her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, spending countless hours serving Him in that little Pentecostal church in Belleoram. And each of the pastors that served there became family to mom and dad. Growing up, we saw a lot of bread being made. And mom always smacked the bread. When asked why she smacked the bread, mom always said she was getting the bubbles out. Secretly, we knew she was smacking one of us kids.
The family would like to sincerely thank our home care workers, Trina, Marg and Marina who greatly enabled us to keep mom home until the end and the months before leading up to this time. We also want to thank the health care staff (nurses, paramedics, home care co-ordinator and doctors) who helped tremendously in these last days to keep her home and as comfortable as possible.
