Marlene Jean Wiess
(nee Alcock)
1937 – 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Marlene Jean Wiess announces her passing on March 30, 2021 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Marlene is survived by her husband Len and four children Jim Wiess (Lorna), Barry Wiess (Sydney), David Wiess (Janet), Heather Palmer (Mitch). Marlene was blessed with 11 grandchildren Travis Wiess (Katie), Devin Wiess ( Melissa), Erica Rempel (Adam), Brett Wiess, Drew Wiess, Craig Wiess, Matthew Wiess (Tannis), Chloe Wiess, Tyler Wiess, Bryana Palmer, Brenley Palmer, 7 great grandchildren, sisters Carole Alcock and Ruth Halldorsson (Brian) and brother-in-law Allan Wiess and sister-in-law Thelma Rafnson plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Marlene was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on May 13, 1937 to Harry and Margery Alcock. Marlene was baptized and confirmed at the Anglican Church in Selkirk. She married Len in 1955 and joined the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Marlene was always a caregiver and had the gift of making everyone feel special.
They resided in Selkirk until Len joined the Canadian Armed Forces. As a young family they lived in Victoria, Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal before returning back to Manitoba. No matter where they were stationed Marlene always made the house feel like home.
Marlene found joy in cooking, sewing, needlework, and ceramics to name a few. Her passion for genealogy led her to many trips to England and Germany to discover her ancestry and connect with her extended family abroad.
When Len retired they decided to start a new adventure running a fishing lodge. As a couple they loved the outdoors and enjoyed the 19 years at Caribou Lake.
The family would like to thank Dr. M. Braun from Access West and the staff at the Grace Hospital for their respectful care.
As much as Marlene loved flowers we are asking that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba.
Condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com.
Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
