Obituary
Marlene Ann (Baerr) Gustafson
After a courageous battle with cancer, Marlene Ann (Baerr) Gustafson nee Forster passed away, February 8, 2021. Marlene is survived by her children Jerry Baerr (Pam), Tyler Baerr (Cindy) and Harley Baerr (Grace); grandchildren Marcaz (Bernadette), Grady and Jaylene; great-grandchildren Atticus and Micah; sister Joyce McKinnon as well as nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Alice Forster, brother Everett Forster, husband Leonard Gustafson and nephew Ryan McKinnon.
Marlene was born March 3, 1943 in The Pas, MB. She spent her early years in The Pas where she attended school and worked at MTS. She also lived in Fort Churchill, Winnipeg, St. Andrews, Petersfield and Selkirk. Her most cherished memories were when her sons were growing up and their friends were always coming and going. She loved spending time together as a family. Marlene’s faith guided her throughout her life. She had a lifelong love of reading and sewing. She made her own clothes as a young girl and found her passion for creating. She could sew literally anything and created many beautiful quilts and wall hangings which her family will cherish forever. She was fiercely independent and supported her family by running her own cleaning business for over 20 years. She became close friends with many of her clients over the years. She loved to spend time chatting with them as she worked.
Marlene was a loving caring person who was known to gift her beautiful quilts to her family and even to perfect strangers. She once met a family at the laundromat who had recently lost everything in a fire. After hearing of their situation, she went out to her vehicle and gathered up one of her quilts. She gave it to the family because she felt that they could use a warm blanket. She enjoyed many hours quilting with her friends and working with them to provide quilts to those in need.
As Marlene wished, cremation has taken place with a private memorial service to follow at a later date.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to mum’s dear friend Tannis Somerville for the care and help that she has provided. You have a heart of gold and we will never forget the compassion that you have shown to our mum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on the Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8
