STEELE, Marjorie Irene (nee Bence)
Marjorie (Marge) Irene Steele was born in Endicott, NY on June 21st, 1927. She was the second born child of the late Joseph & Anna Bence and attended Union-Endicott High School where she graduated in 1945. Marge later moved to Arden, Ontario, Canada along with the rest of her family where her parents owned and operated a general store.
Marge was the beloved wife to the late Clark Steele from Arden, Ontario and is survived by her daughter Patricia, Madoc and son David (Kelly), Corbyville. She was the much loved grandmother to Jo-Anna Steele-Kiley (Mike), Kendra & Brandon and great-grandmother, Kylie. Dear sister of the late Robert Bence Sr. (Glenda, deceased), Kaladar and wonderful aunt to Tammy, Karen, Laurie, Joe, Lisa and Robert Jr. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Keith and sister-in-law Marjorie, both of Arden.
After her marriage to Clark the couple moved to Kaladar, Ontario for a brief period of time where she worked alongside her father Joe and brother Bob at their Mercury dealership, R. J. Bence & Son as the dealership bookkeeper. They later moved to Belleville, Ontario where Marge worked at the A&P and eventually retired after a 30 year career.
Marge’s love of animals was undeniable. She raised and trained dogs and show horses for over 40 years and frequented the animal show circuit throughout Canada and the United States. She would often have her grandchildren and family kids in tow while driving her pristine 1986 Mercury Country Squire station wagon. Marge was an avid gardener, loved to play cards and games with grandchildren & family kids into the wee hours of the morning and could operate a riding lawnmower with impeccable precision and skill.
During the last few years of her life, Marge lived with Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021 in her 95th year with her 2 granddaughters, Jo-Anna and Kylie, by her side. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society in Marge’s name.
Visitation will be held from the John R. Bush Funeral Home, 80 Highland Ave. , Belleville (613-968-5588) on Monday August 9, 2021 from 12:00 noon until time of service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Victoria Cemetery, Plainfield.
