Marian Laurena (Wakely) Stewart passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 2, 2021. A lifelong resident of the Bolton community, loved wife of Murray Stewart for 63 years.
Devoted mom to Sheila (David) Paradi, Mississauga and Lyndon (Amy Quinn), Guelph. Proud grandma to Andrew (Suzie), Laura, Vanessa and Carson (and their mom Tina). Only daughter of the late Hazel (nee Elliott) and Cragg Wakely, sister of Keith (deceased) and sister-in-law Eldora. Cherished niece of Louise Wakely and loving friend to many including Linda Robb, affectionately considered a member of the family.
Caring sister-in-law and aunt to the Stewart & Wakely clans living coast to coast in Canada and the USA.
Born in 1937, Marian (Marnie) having attended school in Bolton, Weston, and Brampton moved with her parents to a new home just north of their 6th Line (Coleraine Dr.) family farm where her brother Keith continued farming. Then in 1958, following her marriage, moved into their new home built across the road which became affectionately known as Marmur Heights.
Following six years with Ontario Hydro, Marnie chose to be a full-time mom and Homemaker. Her gifts included her delicious cooking, baking, beautiful sewing, expertise in looking after the family home, driving Sheila & Lyndon to their lessons & activities, and creating many family memories on road trips and at their cottage on Lake Muskoka in Bala. Marnie set an example to her family of service to others through her volunteering in the community including the Caven church choir and Sunday School, Women’s Missionary Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, activities with Rotary Anns, Macville school, hosting several Rotary International Exchange Students, and all the while, years of devoted caregiving to family and dear friends. The Rotary Club of Bolton honoured Marnie’s years of service by presenting her with a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2007, one of Rotary’s highest international honours. Through Rotary and involvement with the National 4-H Foundation, extensive international travel and years of special memories were enjoyed by Marnie & Murray.
After Sheila & Lyndon had gone to University, Marnie assisted with catering at the Egan Funeral Home followed by 10 years as a part-time receptionist helping where needed.
Marnie worked diligently developing her perennial flower gardens at Marmur Heights West, their home for 50 years, then designed her dream garden for Marmur Heights East which Murray created for her to enjoy these past 13 years. Marnie mastered the operations of her computer and iPad to ensure she could keep in touch with her grandchildren who affectionately updated her name to “Gma”.
We extend heartfelt thanks to our family, friends & neighbours for their kindness, thoughts & prayers and to the Palliative Care team including Dr. Luca, Dr. Mihaylova, Care Coordinator Christina, Nurse Jennifer, the caring PSW team and Dr. Sivapalan for their direction and support.
