Obituary for
Maire-Paule Lalonde
Marie-Paule Lalonde (née Pilon) passed away peacefully at home in Toronto on Sunday June 27, 2021, at the age of 83. Marie married Georges Lalonde in 1958 and raised a family of five children in Sudbury. Pre-deceased by Georges and eldest son Michel, Marie is survived by four children: Marc (Laurie), Bernard (Karen), Philippe (Audra) and Gilliane (Steve) Russell; ten grandchildren: Terry (Brianna), Sarah, Rebecca (Travis), Alex, Isaac, Georgian, late Isadora, Aneira, Emily and Joey; five great-grandchildren: Winter, Colt, Jace, Maija and Charlotte. Family meant everything to Marie. She was a loving, dedicated and proud family member, cherishing her ongoing connection with a very large extended family.
Born in Noëlville, Ontario in 1937 to Marie-Luce Prévost and Gérard Pilon, she grew up in a family of eight children. Marie will be remembered by her siblings: Murielle (Denis) Mariotti, Rollande See, Daniel (Dorothy) Pilon and Joanne Pilon. Marie was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Madeleine (late Maurice) Rouse, Huguette (Gerry) Carriere, Gilbert (Fran) Pilon and Ghislaine (Chuck) Royan.
Known for her quick wit and loving nature, Marie was gifted with an unwavering ability to retain facts and information. She readily recalled dates and moments (including the weather of the day) in the lives of her loved ones, which is incredible given the size of her immediate family, as well as 83 nieces and nephews!
Marie was happiest sharing conversation and home-cooked offerings gathered around the kitchen table, at home or at camp. She took pride in making family and friends feel welcome. Social gatherings, large and small, were common events in the Lalonde household over the years. Her mouth-watering desserts and treats always seemed to be on hand when people would drop by.
Marie was an avid reader and devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan since 1948. She also held a strong allegiance for the Toronto Blue Jays and happily reported on the evening of June 26th that the Jays had “clobbered the Orioles” winning 12-4.
Marie cared deeply about each person in her life and valued her connection to loved ones and friends, some friendships spanning over seventy years. She kept in touch through phone calls and Facebook until the day she passed. She will be greatly missed by her large network of family and friends, both new and old.
Though afflicted by various ailments in her later years, Marie was actively walking about and in great spirits on June 27th. She spent the day with her daughter and youngest grandchildren at her retirement residence. She enjoyed brunch served on her best china, tended to flowers on her shaded balcony and visited with friends in her building. Marie crossed the great divide shortly after her family had left. She was preparing to join a good friend for Sunday dinner. The weather was perfect and Marie looked beautiful, as always, with no indication that her time had come. Marie wished to live life to the fullest until her last breath. Her wish was granted. Rest in Peace, Mom. We love you.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of the Sumach Retirement Residence and VHA Home Health Care Services, whose support enabled Marie to maintain her independence in Toronto. Donations in memory of Marie Lalonde can be made to the VHA not-for-profit organization. www.vha.ca/donate/
There will be a celebration of life for Marie at a later date.
