Lorne Henry Jackson died peacefully at Southeast Integrated Care Centre, Moosomin, Saskatchewan, Tuesday, August 24, 2021. He was 91. He is survived by his loving wife, Lillian, sons Gerry (Carla and daughter Ottlie) and Barry (Christine) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Coral (nee Wilson), sisters Lila Harrold and Margaret Burton and sister-in-law Linda Heaman.
Lorne was born October 4, 1929 on the family farm in Hargrave, Manitoba. Leaving school after grade 8, he made a happy and successful life working the three-quarter section homestead, which was designated as a Century Farm in 1984. Over the years, Lorne also trucked for Bernard Tutthill, worked as a carpenter at the feed mill in Moosomin and as a handyman for families in the area. In 1965, he met Lillian (nee Heritage) through mutual friends. They married in 1967 and over the next 54 years raised their family in Elkhorn. They enjoyed many simple pleasures together including fishing, card games with friends, summer camping excursions, and trips to BC and the Maritimes to visit friends and family. Always the farmer, after retiring in 1993 Lorne tilled gardens throughout the community for many years. He enjoyed keeping up with all the news at the coffee shop, and he frequently attended farm auctions, rodeos, and the Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion and Stampede in Austin. He was keen about local farming history and was an early volunteer with the Elkhorn Museum’s Restoration Club, where he helped fix up tractors and other equipment as well as participating in parades and other events.
Lorne was blessed with an enviable memory and easily recalled the details of days gone by. His stories, quiet ways, and playful teasing will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
For those who so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Lorne’s memory to Moosomin & District Health Care Foundation for a CT Scanner, P.O. Box 1470 Moosomin, SK S0G 3N0, Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice. His life will be celebrated at a private family graveside interment at Elkhorn Cemetery, at a later date.
