Lorne Ivar Sandberg
September 20, 1933 – October 06, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Lorne Ivar Sandberg. Dad was born on September 20, 1933, and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up with his 2 brothers (Arnold, John) and 1 sister (Iris). His parents, Ingeborg and Peder Sandberg, emigrated from Norway in 1923. Dad had many fun moments with his family and friends playing hockey and baseball, and swimming in the Red River.
Dad joined the Air Force in 1953 and earned his degree as a Chartered Accountant. He met Mom while stationed in Ottawa and they were married in 1957. In 1958 Carol was born. Dad retired from the Air Force and they moved to Winnipeg where Deb (1961) and Dave were born (1963) and Dad pursued his career as a Chartered Accountant.
In 1964, Dad packed up the family in a Volkswagon Beetle and moved to Coquitlam, BC. We had many memorable family trips travelling throughout BC and Alberta. In 1968, Dad took a new position in Oshawa, Ontario. In 1972, we moved to Oakville, Ontario where, along with family camping trips on the weekends, Dad took up lots of new hobbies like scuba diving and motorcycle riding.
In 1973 our sister Jodii was born. When Jodii was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 7, Dad and Mom became experts in daily injections and monitoring blood sugar levels. The family was devastated in 2015 when Jodii passed away.
Over the years, the family continued to grow, and Dad and Mom were loving parents, grandparents and great-grandparents to Carol (John) Ayton, their children Lyndsay (Mac) Finn & Alison, Michael (Meghan) Bradlee & Brooks, Deborah (Dean) Swance, their children Colton, Kristyn (Michael), Logan & Hunter, Dave (Pat), and their children Sean & Paige, and Jodii (Cam) Wheler and their son Trenton.
In 2017, Mom passed away suddenly, and Dad moved into Palermo Village Retirement Residence in Oakville until his recent passing. Thank you so much to all the staff at Palermo Village for their kindness, love and consideration for Dad. He received the best care available, especially during these COVID-19 times. You are truly special people, and we are so thankful for all you have done during the last 4 years for Dad. Also, thank you to the wonderful residents who became his friends – we will miss listening to your wonderful stories.
If desired, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
