Lorne’s Obituary
Following a brave and courageous battle with Covid-19, Lorne Boychuk, beloved husband of Irene Boychuk of Canora, SK, passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on November 13, 2021, at the age of 68 years.
Lorne Steve Boychuk was born on March 21, 1953, to John and Antonia (nee Wilgosh) Boychuk in Canora, SK. He was raised on a farm and attended Devil’s Lake School, near Good Spirit Lake, SK, then went on to graduate from Buchanan School in 1971. He lived at the farm until the fall of 1971, when he was hired as a bull cook with the Canadian National Railway.
In 1972, while working for CNR, Lorne met Irene Wolos, whom he married on May 17, 1975. In 1974, Lorne began working in Canora at McLeod’s, which was later renamed True Value. In the early 1990’s, he took over ownership and operated the store until 2004.
Lorne and Irene were blessed with two children. They welcomed their first daughter, Lisa, in 1984, and their second daughter, Amber, in 1991.
A significant moment in Lorne’s life was when he received his kidney transplant in 2001. In 2006, Lorne accepted a position at the Peavey Mart in Yorkton, SK, where he continued to be employed until his passing.
Lorne treasured his time at the farm and especially enjoyed wiener roasts with family. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs, listening to country music, and playing cards and horseshoes. Lorne was best known as being “Mr. Fix-it” for everyone and anything. He was always seen with a smile on his face, ready to enjoy a conversation and a good laugh with anyone. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lorne was predeceased by his parents, John and Antonia Boychuk; a sister, Sophie, in infancy; and his four brothers: Edward, Albert, Steve, and Rudolph.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; daughters, Lisa and Amber of Canora, SK; and two sisters, Elsie (Robert) Vewchar of Sundre, AB and Albina (Carl) Pacholka of Yorkton, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
A Public Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK. Cremation will follow. In celebration of Lorne’s life, a memorial service will be held at a later date, in Spring 2022.
