Obituary of Lorna Joyce Haid
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorna Joyce Haid (nee Heavin) into the care of our Lord, passing at the age of 92 peacefully late on Sunday August 15, 2021. Lorna is survived by her loving husband of 64+ years Harold Haid, and their children Brad (Debra) Haid and Lynne (Vince) Salamon. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren Robert & Laura Haid and Haylea (Josh Miller) & Erik Salamon; her sister Melba Jacobsen, as well as a beloved host of relatives & friends.
Lorna was born July 3 (1929) in Melfort Saskatchewan as the second youngest of 6 children to Emma J. Baker & G.Otto Heavin. Lorna is pre-deceased by both her parents, and siblings Grover (Mary) Heavin; Thelma (Bill) Isley; Myrtle (C.R.P. aka Cork) Britton; Paul (Iris) Heavin; and brother-in-law Colin Jacobsen.
Lorna & her siblings spent their early years on a mixed farm NE of Melfort, near Naisberry (Saskatchewan). As she and her siblings aged, the farming operation evolved from livestock & cropping to predominantly cereal crops, and then subsequently into a large registered seed growing operation. Her oldest brother Grover took over to lead farm operations and her parents moved to a home in Melfort. Lorna attended Melfort Collegiate and then Saskatoon Business College where she completed Legal Secretarial training. She then relocated to Vancouver (B.C.) for 1-year with BA Oil. Returning to her prairie roots she accepted a legal secretary job back in Saskatoon with the Provincial Court and the Court of Queen’s Bench. In late 1954 Lorna met Harold while curling. In 1956 they married and lived in the Keewatin Apartment building in Saskatoon until 1960 when they moved into their home @ 706 (which H&L designed & Haid Construction built). Lorna discontinued legal secretarial work when Brad was born and there-after worked part-time doing the books for Haid Construction.
Lorna became an accomplished artist (oil paintings, particularly of scenery), and enjoyed the company and local area travels with her artist friends. Lorna also enjoyed international travels with Harold; family & friends; curling; softball; golf; sewing; bridge and cribbage, and being involved with the PTA and neighborhood community association(s).
Due to Covid concerns, a small by invitation only in-person funeral service will be held starting at 3:30 pm on Friday August 20th, 2021. The service will be led by Pastor Iris Kristjansdottir. The service will be recorded and viewable through live-streaming via the Saskatoon Funeral Home.
In lieu of gifts / flowers, please consider making a donation to your own charity of choice, and/or to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan (www.alzheimer.ca/sk) or Luther Care. Special thanks to all the staff at the Luther Special Care Home in Saskatoon, who took great care of mom these last 2 years.
Rest well Mom. We love you!

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Lorna
