Lois Mae Evelyn Donnelly
Lois Mae Evelyn Donnelly, award
winning slow-motion bowler, queen of the campground, lover of animals
and terror behind the wheel, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at
the George L. Dumont Hospital. Lois (affectionately know as
‘Loie’ by the younger generations of
Donnelly’s), the first child of four, was born Lois Steeves
in 1934, to Stanley and Thelma (Gilbert) Steeves in Moncton New
Brunswick. Lois cherished all the wonderful memories and time spent
with her siblings, Joan Bulmer, the late Hollis Steeves and Glenda
Bazin.
In her late teens, Lois fell
head over heels for a charming, baby-faced boy from Irishtown –
Raymond ‘Stewart’ Donnelly. The two lovebirds
married in 1952 at the Cherryfield Baptist Church, and one year later
welcomed their first son, Raymond to the family. As the years rolled
on, the couple added five more children to their Irishtown home:
Daniel ‘Danny’, Mark, Cheryl, Marilyn and
Tammy.
Aside from tending to her brood,
Lois led a busy life that involved church pews, bowling balls,
decadent baked goods, thick novels and a myriad of cleaning products
(Lois’ house was known to be SPOTLESS). When she was at home
(and not polishing the hardwood floors or shining her bowling shoes),
Lois could usually be found in the kitchen, baking a loaf (or ten) of
her
‘1968-Mountain-View-School-Baking-Contest-First-Place-Award-Winning’
bread, for which she was quite proud of (the original loaf sold at the
school auction for $5.00 – a loaf at the time usually sold for $0.60
cents).
Lois is survived by her husband
Stewart and four of her six children – Mark Donnelly (Rosella
Richard), Cheryl (Guy) Gosselin, Marilyn Donnelly (John Murray) and
Tammy (Denis) Maillet. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren
and many great-grandchildren.
A Service to celebrate and
honour Lois’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home
Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday, March 25,
2021 at 2:00 pm.
