Obituary
Linda Louise Strom (Niles), born June 5, 1956 in Duncan, BC. Linda was predeceased by her parents Betty and Thomas Niles, her older brother Ken Niles, and her beloved son, Bradley Strom. She leaves behind her son Greg Strom (Danielle); daughter Angela, grandsons Carson and Jack; brothers Michael and Brian Niles (Colleen); sister Glenda Marr (Lorne); numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and of course, dear friends.
Linda was born into a military family. During her youth, the family lived from coast to coast and experienced a 2-year posting to Germany before finally settling in Duncan. Linda quickly made friends wherever she went and maintained a number of those friendships right up until her passing. Lin married and raised her family in Duncan. She made news headlines and the cover of the local paper when she delivered her first son, Gregory, Duncan’s first New Year’s Baby on January 1st, 1974. Gregory was soon joined by his sister Angela and then brother Bradley. Linda spent many years traveling to hockey rinks with her talented son Greg, who she joked “was born with hockey skates on”!
Linda was a very dedicated employee at every position she held, working in restaurants, hotels, airport security, administration, and health care. Linda was small of stature but mighty, at just 5’1”, yet she enjoyed numerous sports including, skiing, skating, and could be seen swimming for miles whenever visiting Maple or Brentwood Bays. Her greatest joy was kayaking with her daughter Angela. Travel was a passion of Linda’s, making numerous trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where she also became a skilled scuba diver. A fond memory she often spoke of, was a time when the dive master put a sea horse on her finger, and it stayed there while she explored the ocean. But Linda’s real love was her children whom she was so proud of and always had a story to tell of their numerous accomplishments.
Linda will be missed by all who loved her, and we all learned something from her. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at the Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion who provided excellent care for Linda the past 9 months. The family kindly asks for donations to be made in honour of Linda to ALS Society of British Columbia. A family celebration of her life to be held in Spring 2022.
