Obituary of Leo Oleskiw
Leo Stanley Oleskiw was born on April 10, 1935 at the family farm by Glenavon and went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 29,2021 at his home in Regina.
He was predeceased by his parents Louis and Katherine (nee Mucha) Oleskiw; and brother John Oleskiw. Leo will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (nee Denischuk); children Brenda (Larry) Curtis, Tony (Maureen) Oleskiw, Loretta (Geoff) Gette, and Cynthia (Chad) English; as well as his grandchildren Alyssa, Landon, April, Amber, Abby, Ty and step-grandchildren Shawn and Amber. He is also survived by numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Leo was a very active member of St. Basil’s, St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church and most recently Our Lady of Peace R.C. Parish, the Knights of Columbus and the Brotherhood. He built the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy Centre with a Shrine to St. Faustina with daily adoration of the Blessed Sacrament where he prayed, served, and maintained alongside his wife for the last 20 years.
Leo had a great faith and travelled extensively to many Shrines around the world and was deeply devoted to Jesus and His Blessed Mother, Mary.
Leo was a journeyman carpenter who, with the help of his wife, had their own construction company since 1971 and built many homes in Regina and across Western Canada. He took great pride in his work and worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He was a dedicated husband and father who lovingly and tirelessly worked on projects big or small for all of his children with true superhero speed and accuracy.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1747 Toronto Street, Regina, SK with a Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. September 4, 2021 at the same location. An interment will follow the Funeral Liturgy at Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Due to severe allergies respect a scent free environment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy, 484 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK, S4R 2A7. The funeral will be live streamed from St. Basil’s Church on Facebook @stbasilschurchregina
