On Saturday, October 30, 2021 Mr. Leonard Norman Thiesen of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 85 years old.
Leonard was born in McMahon, Saskatchewan to Sadie and David Thiesen. He was raised in Taber, Alberta, where he attended Taber High School. Leonard served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Cold War from 1957 until 1967. He attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology from 1973 until 1974. Leonard worked as an operations clerk for Canadian Western Natural Gas, which later became Atco. He retired from Atco in 2001. Leonard was an avid gardener, loved building with Lego, and loved listening to all kinds of music. He couldn’t resist his love for milkshakes, burgers, and chips (fries).
Leonard is survived by his loving family, his children Kimberly and her husband Dean Gardippie, Carole Thiesen, Jennifer and her husband Terry Trofimuk all of Calgary; and five grandchildren Kayla Gardippie, Koen Steer, Veronica Steer, Charlie Trofimuk, Charlotte Trofimuk all of Calgary.
Leonard is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Marjorie Thiesen (nee Nykolaishen) on January 17, 2011; his father David Thiesen on October 10, 1992; his mother Sarah “Sadie” Thiesen (nee Friesen) on September 3, 2000; and his sister Alice Teigland.
A private graveside service will be held. Due to the pandemic protocol, Government issued identification along with proof of vaccination, a negative Covid test result in the past 72 hours or a medical exemption letter will be required for those attending the private service. Masks are mandatory.
