She is survived by her children, Tim (Paula) Halter, Terry (Janet) Halter, Kim (Char) Halter, Sherry (Lawrence) Oesch, Grant (June) Halter, Les (Patty) Halter, Lorin (Kristin) Halter. Beloved grandmother to Robin & Tera; Justin & Jordan; Christopher, Micheal, Joel & Steven; Stephanie, Jayme, Kyle, Meghan & Justin; Grayham, Dani, Kori, Kale & Dayn; Courtney, Katelynn, Meagan, Amber & Brett; Kenzie, Alex, Bree & Dawson. Great Grandmother to 31 children.
Leona is also survived by her siblings Doug Kraft, Kathy (Blaine) Petkau, and foster brother, Dennis Mason.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Halter, her parents Katherine and Lawrence Kraft, and grandson Grayham.
Leona was born in Kerrobert Hospital on December 9, 1935 and grew up in Tramping Lake, gaining siblings later in her life. Growing up for many years as an only child, Leona vowed to have many children of her own.
In 1953 she met and married Lawrence Halter and together they had 7 children. They operated various businesses and lived in many communities in the area, eventually settling in Kerrobert in 1970. Many weekends were spent playing at dances with their band, the Belltones. The cabin at Turtle Lake was a place of many gatherings for the entire family; memories were made with children and grandchildren, friends, and neighbors. Playing games and cards were two things Leona loved to do and she played “Bridge” up to four times a week until just a few years ago.
Leona worked at the bulk fuel station that her and Lawrence ran once the kids were grown. When they retired in 1999, they moved up to Turtle Lake and eventually settled in North Battleford. Lawrence passed away in October of 2001 and Leona remained in North Battleford until December of 2019 when she moved back to Kerrobert. She loved the short time she spent at the Pioneers Haven in Kerrobert and was grateful to be spending her final days at the Kerrobert long-term care facility. Leona always raved about the wonderful care she received everywhere she lived and about the friends she made along the way. Her positive disposition and smiling face will be missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held for Leona at a later date.
