Layton Mert MacAloney
1938-2021
Layton Mert MacAloney
– 83, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15, 2021,
at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in River Hebert,
he was a son of the late Guy and Edith (Gower) MacAloney.
Layton worked at
Brookfield Lumber for many years and retired at age
64. He drove a
Stock Car in the 70s at Onslow Speed Track. He spent many Saturday
afternoons working on friends’ cars when he was able. He loved bowling
and harness racing and thoroughly enjoyed his time
at the barn. He also enjoyed
classic country and fiddle music.
Layton is survived by
his son, Jeffrey Levy
(Sandy), Okotoks, Alberta; daughter, Angela (Rob) Mueller, Toronto,
Ontario; grandchildren, Ashlee, Tayler; siblings, Carvel (Barb)
MacAloney, Five Islands; Marguerite (Richard) May, Montrose; Robert
«Bobby» (Debbie) MacAloney, Ganonogue, Ontario;
Betty (Dennis) Gamble, Valley; brother-in-law, Clarence
Adshade, Port Howe. Layton had several nieces, nephews, great
nieces and great nephews with whom he shared a special bond. Along
with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette Joan
(Levy); siblings, Helen Adshade, Carol Welch, June (Everett) Fletcher,
Beverley (Duncan) Gillis.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55
Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 2
p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2021, April Hart officiating. (Please note
that seating for the service is limited; pre-registration with the
funeral home is required by calling 902-893-3177; face masks
must be worn while in the funeral home.) Interment at a later date in
Bible Hill Cemetery, Warren Drive, Bible Hill. If so desired,
donations in Layton’s memory to Canadian Celiac Association
