Obituary of Lawrence Frank Goebel
Goebel, Lawrence Frank
August 19, 1937 – September 9, 2021
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Lawrence Goebel (84) on September 9, 2021. He passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Saskatoon, SK.
Born in Neudorf, SK to Frank and Lydia Goebel, Lawrence’s early years were spent farming with his parents and three brothers. He married the love of his life, Norma Goebel, on October 23, 1959 and they were blessed with four children. Lawrence and Norma lived in Regina until they moved to Saskatoon in 1969.
Lawrence worked for Prairie Metal for several years. Given his hard work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, he decided to start his own company, Prairie Steel Products Ltd., in 1976. Initially the company manufactured culverts and grain storage bins, and later expanded to manufacturing commercial steel buildings. This family business continues to thrive 45 years later, with its products being distributed throughout Canada.
Lawrence was an extraordinary inventor. He planned, designed and built numerous machines and equipment that enhanced the manufacturing processes used by Prairie Steel Products.
While he was a successful businessman, farming always remained close to Lawrence’s heart. After moving to Saskatoon, he continued to farm near his hometown and later bought land near Aberdeen, SK., which he farmed until he was 80 years old.
Lawrence had a great sense of humour and was an accomplished accordion player. Norma and Lawrence wintered in Mesa Arizona for 18 years, where Lawrence enjoyed jamming with friends and other musicians. He also shared his love of music at countless dances and weddings and attended many accordion festivals in Kimberley, B.C.
Lawrence will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 61 years, Norma Goebel; his three children, Lyle (Sheri) Goebel, Kelly (Diane) Goebel and Janice Goebel (Blaine); his six grandchildren, Jennifer Goebel (Buddy), Paula (Mark) Balkwill, Carter Goebel (Jordie), Nicole Goebel (Cody), Laura Goebel (Justin), and Zack Boldt; his great granddaughter, Lucy Balkwill; and his sister-in-law, Donna Goebel. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Lydia Goebel; his brothers, Louie, Sam and Raymond Goebel; and his son, Marvin Goebel.
We invite you to share in the celebration of this incredible man’s life at Faith Lutheran Church, (2801Preston Avenue, Saskatoon, SK) at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021.
